Have A Moldy Situation? Call SERVPRO of Garden City/Hempstead at 516-620-4579

3/8/2022 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation is One of Our Primary Areas of Expertise at SERVPRO of Garden City/Hempstead

We have the training and experience to contain the infestation, scrub health-threatening spores out of the air, remove the contaminated materials, and help prevent future microbial growth.

Have A Moldy Situation?

Imagine you were cleaning out a storage closet, and you found mold growing on the back wall. A number of situations may have created an ideal situation for microbes to grow in this closet. Once you identified and resolved the source, you would still want to contact a professional to mitigate the mold and ensure healthy air for your home or office. Healthy air for all to breathe.

Containing the Infestation.

When we begin a mold job, our first concern is to contain the mold infestation. The mold you can see is only a small part of the danger posed to building occupants. Mold reproduces by releasing invisible spores into the air. Therefore, we begin by preventing air from the contaminated area traveling to other parts of the building.

Scrubbing Mold Out of the Air.

Each job is unique in its challenges and solutions. However, in most cases, our mold mitigation team will set up a containment barrier and create a “negative air” situation inside the infested area. A “negative air” situation is essentially a vacuum that ensures air only flows into and not out of the contained area while the air scrubbers filter the spores and other contaminants from the air.

Removing Contaminated Materials.

Organic materials like drywall, carpeting, and ceiling tiles must be removed and discarded once they become contaminated with mold. This is why we encourage our customers to contact us immediately after a water loss to dry all the materials before microbial growth begins. Blowing a fan across moldy materials hoping to dry them and save them spreads mold spores in the air and may increase the health risk to building occupants.

Inhibiting Future Growth.

We can never promise to prevent all future mold growth. Mold spores are everywhere in the atmosphere, and they take root and thrive whenever they find the perfect mix of moisture, food (organic materials) and temperature. However, we have several SERVPRO products that discourage microbial growth. Once your moldy materials have been removed and the air has been scrubbed to reduce the concentration of spores, we can apply one of these anti-microbial agents to help protect your building’s structural elements.

When You See Mold, Call ASAP!

Remember you cannot see the biggest threat that mold presents. Call SERVPRO of Garden City/Hempstead at 516-620-4579 for a free estimate and advice about protecting yourself and others until the mold is removed and the air is clean again.

Learn the science behind the process of drying. Call us 516-620-4579

12/23/2021 (Permalink)

Did you know there is actually a science behind the process of drying? The knowledge of psychrometrics is essential to restoring a water damaged structure to its preloss condition. While your initial reaction may be to grab a few towels to mop up the mess and place a fan or two around the damaged area, SERVPRO of Garden City/Hempstead professionals are trained in the science of drying and follow strict industry-approved standards to help lower the chance of any secondary damages. If your home or business suffers from water damage, your local SERVPRO professionals will:

  • Inspect your home or building to detect every component that is wet, to help prevent secondary damage from happening.
  • Measure how much moisture is in wet materials and monitor whether that materials are drying
  • Speed up Mother Nature by using professional drying equipment

What exactly does “speed up Mother Nature” mean? A wet structure can often dry naturally because the environment always seeks equilibrium. When materials are wet, moisture will naturally move to drier air at the surface of the material- but only if the air is, indeed, drier. The only problem is, nature often takes too long and secondary damages may occur while the building is drying out. For this reason, the professionals at SERVPRO have been trained to use top-of-the-line equipment to help Mother Nature along, including equipment to help dry hardwood floors, tough-to-reach spaces inside walls, and much more. SERVPRO of Garden City/Hempstead also state-of-the-art monitoring equipment and a proven scientific process to help speed the drying of your home or business.

The bottom line? SERVPRO of Garden City/Hempstead has the training and equipment to help make it “Like it never even happened.” Call us today at (516) 620-4579

Understanding Mold

9/14/2021 (Permalink)

Mold growth is a concern for many property owners, but how many homeowners actually understand what mold is? Also, when a homeowner comes across mold, how many understand the protocol for protecting their home and removal of the problem? Thankfully, these questions can be easily answered.

What is Mold?

Mold spores are the microscopic organisms that contribute to the fungal growth that appears on your building's walls, ceiling or floors. There are several types of mold, some are toxic, but others are more common and less harmful. However, every variety can cause significant damage.

What Leads to Mold Growth?

The severity of a mold problem depends on the environmental conditions when the spores root into a surface. If the your home experienced high humidity or water leaks, then mold will probably proliferate, becoming a severe infestation in as little as 48 hours.

Does Mold Removal Take a Long Time?

Mold removal generally takes three to seven days. However, depending on the severity of the infestation and the water damage that caused the initial problem, full restorations may take longer.
Mold growth is a concern for most property owners. However, understanding the fungus goes a long way in easing the anxiety and stress surrounding possible infestations.

Is a Remediation Specialist Necessary?

While some minor infestations may be completed on your own, those individuals who are trained and certified should perform most mold removals. You may want to hire a company, especially when the mold type is considered toxic.

SERVPRO of Garden City/Hempstead has the experience and training to remediate your mold issue quickly and efficiently.

Got Mold?

Got Mold? Call SERVPRO of Garden City/Hempstead today - we're available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, even on holidays!

Understanding Mold and the Remediation Process

2/21/2020 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Garden City/Hempstead is Trained in the Science of Drying

4/23/2019 (Permalink)
