Fourth of July Grill Safety Tips

Fourth of July weekend is generally a big time for cookouts during the summer grilling season. Families and friends will gather to grill in celebration of Independence Day.

The National Fire Protection Association says gas grills are the "chief culprit" in home grilling fires.

SERVPRO of Garden City/Hempstead is urging people to take the necessary safety measures when grilling this holiday weekend. We recommend the following grill safety tips:

• Keep your grill away from your house or any other structure
• Make sure there is proper ventilation
• When you're done grilling, make sure you turn the gas off, or let the charcoals cool off before disposing them
